What We Believe

  • We believe that God is the Creator of the universe and all that exists.  He continues His work of creation and re-creation all around us.  He loves all people even though sin has corrupted us.  We believe in the sanctity of human life (Genesis 1:1, Colossians 1:16-17, Isaiah 43:7, 1 Timothy 2:3-4).

  • We believe that the Bible is God's Living Word, without error in the original manuscripts.  Inspired by the Holy Spirit, the Bible is our final authority in matters of faith and life (2 Timothy 3:16, Psalm 119:105).

  • We believe that there is one God (Deuteronomy 6:4), eternally existing in three persons: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit (Matthew 3:16-17, 28:19, 2 Corinthians 13:14).  We have a loving Father who is good all the time (Jeremiah 31:3).

  • We believe that Jesus Christ, in His earthly ministry, was both fully God and fully human, and is now in His glorified state equal and co-eternal in the one Triune Godhead.  Jesus' death and resurrection paid the penalty for our sins and, by grace through faith, offers believers full forgiveness and eternal salvation (1 Timothy 3:16, Isaiah 9:6, Romans 4:25, Colossians 1:15-20, Galatians 2:20, 1 Peter 2:24).

  • We believe that the Holy Spirit, co-eternal with the Father and Son, brings us to saving faith in Jesus as Lord and Savior.  The Spirit fills, gathers, and equips believers to live lives that honor the Lord.  He gives each believer spiritual gifts to bless and serve others (Acts 2:1, 1 Corinthians 12:1-31, 14:1-12, Galatians 5:13-26).

  • We believe God created all things good.  However, with the fall into sin (Genesis 3:1), brokenness resulted.  By nature, we are broken in relationship to God, ourselves, the world, and others.  We need Jesus Christ, who alone can save and redeem us (Isaiah 53:4-12, Romans 1:3).

  • We believe that Christ alone (Acts 4:12, John 14:6) provides what all human beings need - forgiveness of sins, an abundant life now, and eternal life.  This salvation is a free gift of grace (Ephesians 2:8-9).  We believe that anyone who believes in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior can be certain of this salvation (John 5:24).  We believe that we receive this free gift through faith alone (Romans 3:28, John 3:16). As followers of Jesus, we engage in a lifelong process of growth and transformation (Romans 12:2, 2 Corinthians 5:17).

  • We believe that we are a part of the one, true Christian Church (Ephesians 3:4-6, Romans 12:5) made up of all who believe in Jesus as Lord and Savior.  We are now on a mission to all people as we share the message of Jesus. We welcome into Christian fellowship all who believe in Jesus as Lord and Savior (Romans 15:17).

  • We believe that Jesus instituted Holy Baptism and the Lord's Supper as promised means of His grace.  We believe that the Lord is truly present in the sacraments, and that our faith receives what the sacraments offer - forgiveness of sins and life.  We are baptized into a relationship with Christ (Romans 6:3-5).  We baptize children and adults (Matthew 28:19-20).  In the Lord's Supper, Jesus offers us Himself for our forgiveness, strength, and life (Mark 16:16, 1 Corinthians 11:23-29).

  • We believe that God invites us to pray to Him (1 Thessalonians 5:17). He always hears and answers prayers in ways that bless us and fulfill His good and gracious will. We further believe that prayer is a conversation with the Living God (James 5:1, Matthew 18:18-20).

  • We believe that the first institution established by God is the family. We commit ourselves to protect the marriage covenant between a man and a woman, and maintain moral purity before and during marriage. Parents assume responsibility for the spiritual instruction and training of their children (Genesis 1:27, 2:18, Malachi 2:13-15, Mark 10:7-9, Ephesians 6:4, Hebrews 13:4).

  • We believe in the existence of heaven and hell.  God has prepared a glorious eternal home for us in heaven and wants us all to be saved.  We can only dimly see what an amazing future the Lord has prepared for all who are saved (John 3:15-17, John 3:36, 1 Peter 1:3-9).

  • We believe that believers in Christ are called to be disciples - active, growing followers of Jesus.  Based on the Word of God:

    • We believe that Christians are to be actively involved in sharing the saving Gospel of Jesus with all people who do not yet believe in Him as their Lord and Savior (Matthew 28:18-20, 2 Peter 3:9).
    • We believe that Christians are to be pro-active in breathing life into others by making peace, seeking justice, protecting life, and meeting the human needs of others (Ephesians 2:14, Matthew 5:9, 25:31-46).
    • We believe that Christians are to actively strive to break down the barriers that divide people, including the barriers of race, economics, and gender (Acts 10:34-35, Galatians 2:18).  We believe that the church should mirror on earth the eternal reality of heaven (Matthew 6:10, 18:18-20).
